I grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I graduated from the University of Manitoba with B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in physics. I came to Purdue University for graduate studies and earned a PhD in Medical Physics. I decided that I liked Lafayette, Indiana enough to make it my home.
While I studied physics I also took art classes. I found the art classes complementing physics and vice versa. I've been drawing for as long as I remember and started photography around grade 9 when my science teacher asked me to help with photography workshops he was giving to other teachers.
A large proportion of my images are made during sporting events. I find that it is an interesting environment to make photographs: on display is the translation of practice to performance. With that comes a variety of states: supreme confidence, jubilation, self doubt, anxiety, and the heartache of what could have been. There's also the photographic challenges: getting access, one can easily be at the wrong place, the wrong time, with the wrong lens, or the expected outcome does not occur even though one is prepared for it.
Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss a project, or specific portfolio of images.
